Taking pictures of babies is a fun thing to do.  Why?  Because babies are cute.  They look cute, they act cute and they just make you want to take their picture.  But how do you get great pictures of your baby?

It All Starts With The Eyes

#1. Focus on baby's eyes.  Even though they are tiny, every mother and father knows that babies have beautiful expressive eyes that can speak volumes.  After all, besides screaming and cooing this is the only way that your baby has to communicate for the first year or so of life.

When you focus on your little ones eyes when you are taking pictures, your pictures will come out really well.  You will be amazed at the difference this can make.

Capture The Milestones

#2. Focus on what baby does.  Because your child is growing so fast at this stage and learning so many new things, you can get fantastic pictures by taking photos of the new things that your baby is doing.  Just keep your camera on hand, because you never know when baby will learn to do something new.

For instance, when my nephew was learning to feed himself, he had spaghetti one night, and my sister took a bunch of "tomatoe sauce face" snapshots and made them into a collage.   This turned out super cute and I have it hanging on my bulletin board and smile every time I see it.

Personality Is Important

#3. Remember the personality shots.  Your baby has a personality all her own.  She does unique things.  Take pictures of these times.  Getting her personality down on film will create beautiful memories, plus give you great pictures.

Whether your baby makes a funny face, or if she likes to play with her toes, there are always a lot of opportunity for personality shots.

Quantity Is Key

#4. Take a lot of photos. This has long been the secret of photo professionals and is the biggest key to getting great shots. With digital cameras it has become affordable. No matter what your skill level is, taking a lot of pictures will always give you at least a few that are spectacular.

In fact, you may be surprised at how well your pictures turn out and want to enter some into baby photo contests to show off your little one.

Don't Forget To Back Up Your Photos

#5. Back up your pictures.  Most people now use digital photography.  Which is great because it lets you take as many pictures as you want, but you need to make sure you back up your pictures.

If your harddrive crashes and you don't have a copy anywhere you will be devistated.  There are online services that automatically back up your hard drive, or you can use and external drive or  CD's.

Capture The Memories

Taking pictures of your baby is a great way to remember all of the moments of your baby's early life.  Kids grow up fast and he will be in school before you know it, so now is a great time to take your pictures.
